Even the cold early spring of 2012 could not deter Occupy Wall Street (OWS) activists in New York city. People from different backgrounds continue to come out onto the streets. The agenda driving all the protesters remains the same: income inequality, corruption among banks and multinational corporations, foreclosures, climate change, police brutality and above all, the need to get together and talk in person -- not just via mobile phones. It is all about the courage of ordinary men and women to tell the truth to those who hold power. Watch 'Blockupy' Protesters Bring the Spirit of Occupy Wall Street to Frankfurt Despite Ban Video 'Blockupy' Protesters Bring the Spirit of Occupy Wall Street to Frankfurt Despite Ban
May 18, 2012
More than 1000 anti-capitalist "Blockupy" demonstrators in Germany's financial capital Frankfurt went against an assembly ban on Thursday (May 17) to protest against European governments' euro debt crisis policies. Protesters who gathered in the city's historic "Roemer" square outside city hall were setting up tents while a few hundred yards (metres) away, hundreds of people chanted "anti-capitalista" as police in riot gear were standing by. Several demonstrations organized by occupy movement sympathizers scheduled for Thursday were all banned by local courts after the city of Frankfurt expressed concern over possible riots. Police were expected to descend on the protesters later in the day to enforce the ban. On Friday, occupy sympathizers are planning to move block access to the headquarters of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt. On Saturday, police are bracing for up to 40000 demonstrators to descend on the city. Up to 2000 of them have a potential to turn violent, according to police who are planning to have some 5000 officers from across Germany in place.

Occupy Wall Street held a "General Strike" to commemorate May Day in New York City. Led by Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, the "Guitarmy" of a few thousand people noisily marched 28 blocks down Fifth Avenue toward Union Square Park. Reason.tv was on the scene to speak with Morello, USMC Sgt. Shamar Thomas (who became a viral video sensation after screaming at NYPD officers during an OWS protest last year), rival zombie marchers, and a few self-described lefties who've just had it with President Obama. Runs about 5 minutes. Produced by Anthony L. Fisher, with camera by Nathan Chaffetz, Sean McElwee and Fisher.
